Taking the adult or early stages of butterflies from the wild is generally to be discouraged. This may deplete the wild stocks of rarer types of butterfly, and in some localities or countries may be illegal. Furthermore, any caterpillars or pupae taken from the wild will frequently be hosts to parasitic flies which not only cause the death of the individuals but also risk further attack on other stock which you may be breeding. Suitable stock for breeding may be obtained through the mail at modest cost.
