The actinic ring style of trap lighting is always popular with children who visit our display at insect shows, as when the trap is hung it makes the Safari® look a bit like a glowing flying saucer!
Please note the Safari® in this set comes with a plain cone ring as illustrated, to mount a circular actinic tube either vertically or horizontally (as supplied with the set).
Other lighting options: The Safari® in this set can also be used with 38mm ES fitting lamps if the 4" lampholder is purchased as an optional extra - see related products link below. These include both compact fluorescents and MBT lamps (please see our important safety warning above about the use of MBT electrics). Other lighting options are available to purchase from many entomological retailers.

find out more | | Safari  £37.50 Our Safari® moth trap is a versatile super-lightweight, supremely portable, economical unit.
This collapsible fabric trap has an integral central cone and assembles rapidly. It can be hung, or ground tethered using tent pegs (not supplied, please follow the Related products link for this item). The Safari® accepts MV & MBT ES fitting lamps and a range of actinic light-sources. When using actinics, trapping effectiveness is further improved by the whole body shining with translucent 'UV glow' so making the best use of low wattage actinic tube lighting.
The Safari® cone features velcro type straps which can be used to mount 22 watt actinic ring tubes vertically or horizontally across the cone. At the bottom of the cone sits the 38mm (4") lampholder, ready to accept your MV/MBT lamp up to 160 watts, or your actinic compact lamp. The lampholder can be quickly and easily removed to fit an actinic vane unit (please note, Watkins and Doncaster vanes do not fit this product). Vertically mounted straight actinic tubes can also be fitted - to do so you will need to purchase the steady bar, available as an optional extra (above).
IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING: The Safari® trap does not have a rainshield so Insectopia recommend the use of actinic lighting sources, which run sufficiently cool not to be shattered if it begins to rain during their use. Insectopia also recommend the use of actinics rather than MBT or MV lighting for attended trapping and public events. If preferred however, MV & MBT lamps can be used with the Safari® in dry weather. They must NEVER be operated in rain, drizzle or damp conditions, or when such conditions are predicted, as raindrops are likely to cause the bulb to crack or explode with risk of personal injury.
